1-MINUTE RESUME FOR MICHELLE PFEIFFER
Yes, she's blessed with good genes, but Pfeiffer's road to stardom wasn't paved with diamonds. Her first big movie, 1982's
Grease 2, was such a flop she didn't work for a year. Her next was
Scarface,
but she played cold so well she was only offered "ice-queen" roles, and
her next few films bombed, too. But slowly and surely, the parts came
in:
The Witches of Eastwick,
Married to the Mob,
Dangerous Liaisons,
The Fabulous Baker Boys
(which earned her an Oscar nod). By the late '80s and early '90s,
Pfeiffer was the hottest thing in town; she sealed her fate as a
permanent A-lister as the memorable Catwoman in
Batman. In the 2000s, Pfeiffer enjoyed a hiatus, but 2007 would bring three major films:
Stardust,
Hairspray and
I Could Never Be Your Woman.
5 Things:
1. She won Miss Orange County but lost Miss L.A.
2. She took course credit for after-school jobs to graduate just after her junior year in high school.
3. She says that her basic nature is "dark," and she tends to be
pessimistic, and having spent so much time in therapy, it felt like a
part-time job.
4. She was raised in a blue-collar town, the second eldest of four
children to her father, a heating and air-conditioning contractor, and
housewife mother.
5. She is known for being difficult about things she feels strongly
about; director Robert Towne called her the most difficult actor he'd
ever worked with after Tequila Sunrise.
Quote:
"I was a bully. I was a tomboy. I used to beat up all the boys.
Whenever there was a problem, they would come to me. I was like the
Mafia don of my elementary school … I still have a really hard time …
socializing. I become paralyzed when I have to make small talk. Which
is why I'm not good at interviews. I tend to go right into the heart of
things and get really personal. Then afterward, I read them and I
think, aw, s--t. Why the f--k can't you just shut your mouth?"
