The youngest of five children, "Katie" lived in several states,
including Colorado and Virginia, as a child before the family finally
settled down in (upscale) New Canaan, Conn. Within weeks of being
photographed at age nine by an aunt who wanted to advertise a hair care
product she'd invented, Katherine was signed by Wilhelmina, a top
international modeling agency. She made her big-screen debut in 1992's That Night (1992), which starred Juliette Lewis and C. Thomas Howell, which led to many other features including the horror films Bug Buster and Bride of Chucky, both made in 1998. Her Golden Globe-nominated role as Izzie Stevens on TV's Grey's Anatomy helped land Heigl a starring role in 2007's Knocked Up.
