1-MINUTE RESUME FOR DIANE KEATON
Those who say there are no good roles for older women in Hollywood
haven't paid attention to Keaton's career, which has seen her go from
meek ingenue to independent woman. It started in the late '60s when she
met Woody Allen while on Broadway and appeared in a couple of his
films, bringing her to the attention of Francis Ford Coppola, who cast
her as Michael Corleone's (Al Pacino) long-suffering wife, Kay, in the
first two
Godfather
movies. Her liaisons with famous men (Allen, for many years, then
Warren Beatty) helped her career; she received a number of awards and
nominations with films she made with them (an Oscar for 1977's
Annie Hall,
Reds). But by the 1980s and '90s, she was standing well on her own with movies like
Baby Boom,
The First Wives Club and
Marvin's Room. She's continued in the '00s with the hit
Something's Gotta Give and
Because I Said So.
5 Things:
1. She was the only castmember of the play Hair to not undress during the ending striptease scene.
2. She is known for dating and dumping Woody Allen for Warren Beatty.
3. Her role in Annie Hall started a unisex clothing trend, and she is still recognized for the style.
4. She directed Belinda Carlisle's videos "I Get Weak" and "Heaven Is a Place On Earth."
5. She's a huge art, architecture and photography aficionado.
Quote:
"Being a movie star is a rare job. Nobody gives you any guarantees that you'll get to do it forever."
