1-MINUTE RESUME FOR ANNA FARIS
The winsome blond actress of Scary Movie
fame grew up in Seattle and began acting while attending the University
of Washington, doing stage and voiceover work before moving to Los
Angeles upon graduation in 1999. She auditioned for a solid six months
before landing Scary Movie in 2000; she proved a natural at
comedy. The movie raked in $250 million, and she was cast in its
sequels. Most of her roles have been on the light side, although she
has taken on a few quirky parts, like Lost in Translation's
self-absorbed starlet (rumored to be a stab at Cameron Diaz) and the
lesbian veterinary receptionist in the little-seen but well-received
horror movie May.
5 Things:
1. Her first Scary Movie audition was videotaped on an old camera, reading opposite her mother at home in front of the fireplace.
2. Her name is pronounced "ah-na."
3. During her college years, she waited tables at a retirement home.
4. She plays bocce ball.
5. She initially didn't want to be a Hollywood actress; she did her first movie in 1999, a low-budget horror film called Lover's Lane, for the money.
Quote:
"I used to stand in front of the mirror with my retainer and pretend I was on a talk show like Donahue
being interviewed about my retainer. It wasn't that I was talking to my
retainer. It was that I was on a talk show, talking about my talking
retainer."
